HISTORYWestminster House pioneered and developed this style of retirement living. They called it independent living, offering single over 50’s accommodation and meal packages. They guaranteed that the residents would always ‘have money left for themselves’ if they were on the pension.
They already had a couple of establishments, also called Westminster House, in the greater Brisbane area and in 1996 this Sunshine Coast based company expanded to the Cold Coast and bought this property. It refurbished and transformed the two existing building into 44 individual rooms, each with it's own bathroom.
In 2002 the management rights of this first Stage, the original Westminster House, were bought by the current owner.
Between 2005 and 2012 the remaining parcel of land to the back of the property was developed into 108 1-bedroom units of which Stage 2, the first 36 became part of Westminster House in 2007.
Unfortunately due to the effects of the GFC in 2008 the last two stages were sold to other operators who use a similar system but with less service and amenities.
OUR TEAMGrace and Kevin the owners and managers and their dedicated staff have been operating the facility since April 2017. With plenty of industry experiance in New Zealand, looking after the needs residents comes natural. Grace is more in charge of the managerial and cooking (her chinese dishes are phenomenal)duties while Kevin takes care of maintenance and management.
Olive affectionately called ‘Aunty Olive’, has been here even longer and is the most caring and dedicated person one could ask for. She spends most of her time in the kitchen and dining-room making sure everything is spot-on. She is always ready to help out and also is in charge of our Bingo afternoons and special events.
Gary is our cook and by his own admission has a bit of a ‘sweet tooth’. He therefore makes most of the delicious desserts and bakes our muffins and cakes.
Kim spends her time backing up Gary and Olive in the kitchen and dining room.
Barbara is our youngest team member and is our ‘Sadie’ as well as looking after our residents in the dining room.
Billy and Michael are our ‘green finger’ and look after the outdoor duties and maintenance.
